Frequently Asked Questions

Can I drive to the island? Where can I rent a boat?

It is truly an island & you need a boat to get there. If you don’t have one, there are some great rental places around Discovery Bay. Our favorite is CB Rentals. Great people and great boats.

What is the closest marina for us to park at?

There are three marinas nearby: Holland Marina, Bullfrog Marina, and Discovery Bay.

Holland is closest (perhaps 5 minutes away by boat), but has a $10 fee for overnight parking. This marina is great if you are coming from the Bay Area.

Bullfrog is next (around 8 minutes away). No parking fees. This marina is great if you are coming from the east.

And then there is Discovery Bay (15 minutes away). Free parking, and lots of great services. Only bummer is the 5 MPH boat speed limit for the first few miles, makes for a slow exit.

Do we need to bring towels and bedding?

Nope - we got it! We look after all of that for you. Bedding, bath towels, kitchen towels, and beach towels! We also provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in each shower.

Is the kitchen ready for groups?

Yes. We generally have place-settings for 20 in the main lodge (plates, glasses, cups, glassware, cutlery), and if you need more, we have duplicate sets in the platform house. The Kitchen has all the pots, pans, roasters, baking sheets & equipment you will need. We also have a communal pantry for all the condiments and basic items.

Is there a BBQ? Do we need to bring anything?

There are three BBQ’s out there! A wonderful old-school smoker, a standard gas BBQ, and a classic Weber for briquettes. We stock propane (and refills are easy to get at Bullfrog Marina), and the smoker pellets. We also will likely have the briquettes, but people go through those really quickly, so it’s a good idea bring a bag or two when you come.

Do I need to sign the waver?

Yes. Absolutely. No exceptions.

Every person, renter, or guest of a renter, must sign the waver. No one is allowed up the ramp without signing the waiver.

Sorry to be such a stickler on this, but given the docks, water, inland waterways, and farm equipment (just to name a few), we really need people to acknowledge that these things can be dangerous and you absolutely need to be responsible for yourself, your kids, and your guests.

Are there any water toys?

We have two kayaks, and an ever changing number of floating items. Inflatable water toys don’t last very long so they are always a little in flux.

Goats! What about the goats?

The goats and sheep are amazing at helping us keep the vegetation under control. They are also very friendly animals. It’s not uncommon to have them approach you while you are on the walk around the island. They always like a little petting and affection. We do have a fence around the houses to keep them back a bit. They have been known to wander down to the docks or come up on the back deck. They are adorable, but can be messy, so it’s best to keep them off the deck and docks & back a ways from the houses.

Can I bring a dog?

We are dog friendly. There is a charge for bringing a dog because they do tend to make the clean up at the end of the stay take a little longer. Please remember that it is your responsibility to keep your dog from chasing the goats (most dogs actually get along with goats and sheep, and once they check each other out are pretty relaxed). But you don’t know that until they are all together, so please be responsible.

Are there bugs out there?

This one is tough to answer because it depends so much on the season, the temperature, and if there is a breeze. There are times in the spring that all the outdoor lights have a crazy swarm around them, and there are also times there are no bugs at all. We have had nights by the fire without any mosquitos, and then 2 nights later there were mosquitos everywhere. Generally in the early spring there are more things flying around, and it dissipates over summer.

How many boats can the dock accommodate?

We have had up to five ski/wakeboard boats on the dock at a time. Plenty of room for what ever you bring.

Where does the garbage go?

Well… we take it all off the island by barge. We have 20+ garbage cans, and a dedicated boat for this. We have a dumpster at Bullfrog Marina, and thats how we keep the island clean. We do ask that you pull out any cardboard and set that aside or use it in the outdoor fire pit.

Unfortunately, the Delta doesn’t have a very refined recycle program, but we are still doing our part. The cleaning team lives in Brentwood and they do have some recycle services there, so they have been helping to take the cans and glass back with them for drop-off. It’s not perfect, but we are doing all we can.

If you can work with us and separate cardboard, cans & glass we will do what we can to keep them out of the landfill.
